Call for applications: READY Track 1 – Safeguarding heritage collections, living traditions and practices in the face of disasters, extreme weather events and complex emergencies

How can you reduce disaster, conflict, and extreme weather risks to your heritage? How can you respond effectively to safeguard heritage in emergencies? And how can you evaluate effective risk reduction for heritage?
READY - a groundbreaking training initiative uniting heritage professional, first aiders, risk managers, cultural bearers and emergency responders to break silos and tackle these urgent challenges together.
ICCROM, through its First Aid and Resilience for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAR) programme, in partnership with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) and the Ministry of Culture of Latvia, is launching READY Track 1-Safeguarding Heritage Collections, Living Traditions, and Practices in the Face of Disasters, Extreme Weather, and Complex Emergencies. .

Course structure
- Phase 1: Online Orientation and Introduction of Key Concepts (May-June 2025)
- Phase 2: Two-week in-person training on Moveable and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Riga, Latvia (July 2025)
- Phase 3: Follow-up Field Projects Implemented by Participants (Aug 2025-Feb 2026). The resources for implementing field projects will be supported by participants' institutions.
- Phase 4: International Online Meeting for Dissemination of Field Project Outcomes
Who can apply?
This training is open exclusively to applicants from Creative Europe Programme countries. Eligible participants include:
- Professionals working to safeguard living traditions, knowledge, practices, and heritage collections in museums, libraries, archives, and heritage sites.
- Cultural bearers and community leaders dedicated to protecting at-risk movable and living heritage.
- First aiders, disaster risk managers, climate adaptation specialists, fire risk managers, and civil protection professionals.
How to apply
Participation is fully funded, covering travel and accommodation for the in-person training.
Complete all required fields in the application form. Before applying, ensure you have selected a heritage collection and/or intangible heritage element. Applications will only be considered if the heritage collection or element is located in a Creative Europe country; otherwise, they will be invalid.
