The Risk KAN invites interested experts in relevant fields, from all sectors, (including, but not limited to, government, private sector, NGOs, civil society and academia) to self-nominate for the Steering Committee’s next three-year term (2022-2024).

The Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events (Risk KAN) provides an open platform for scientific communities, policy-makers, educators, civil society, media, industry, and donors, from across science disciplines and engineering, working on extreme events, disaster risk reduction and governance to exchange information, knowledge and data and engage in collaborative research activities. It is a joint initiative of the Future EarthIRDRWCRP and WWRP programmes to address systemic, complex and cascading risks by synthesis of various scientific approaches and products. You can find out more about us on this webpage or on our Twitter account.

The first Risk KAN Development Team was formed in 2019 and in its second phase it is growing into a Steering Committee, composed of up to 22 volunteer members, representing different regions, disciplines and sectors of the Risk KAN’s mission. We are looking for new members to expand our current membership.

Submit your application to further shape the Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events (Risk KAN) Steering Committee by 26 November, 2021

Candidates should have expertise in the following areas:

  • Risk KAN relevant discipline(s)
  • Synthesis and agenda setting
  • Setting strategy, building and leading projects or activities, especially in an international context

and should demonstrate commitment and vision to further contribute to developing the Risk KAN.

Procedure

Risk KAN’s current Development Team will select new members, from the available candidates, with the skills, knowledge and impartiality to deliver the Risk KAN’s vision and objectives, outlined in the Terms of Reference, giving due consideration to balanced representation of geographies, disciplines, gender and generation. We highly encourage motivated individuals with diverse backgrounds (e.g., those, of all genders, from the Global South or who are at an early stage in their careers) to apply.

The Risk KAN mainly works remotely, complemented by in person meetings if needed and if the pandemic situation allows this. If needed (e.g., for early career scientists or members from low-income countries), costs for long-distance travelling might be covered.

All interested individuals can apply using our application form!

The timeline is:

  • October 4 th – November 26th: open call
  • November 27th – December 15th: preselection
  • December 15th – January 12th 2022: selection of Steering Committee members for 2022-24
