Canada: Slave Lake shows need for national wildfire strategy

Brian Stocks, president of B.J. Stocks Wild fire Investigations Ltd. and Paul Kovacs, executive director of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction, call for actions to be taken in Canada in order to manage wildfire today and in the future. On 15 May, the wildfire in Slave Lake triggered preliminary insured losses of an unprecedented $700 million, reports the Edmonton Journal. It has been the second most expensive natural disaster in Canadian history according to the report.
