Caribbean: Reducing risks before disasters strike

The Department of Disaster Management is in the process of completing a 5-year Comprehensive Disaster Management Strategy, a proactive approach to disaster management with more emphasis on reducing risks before disasters strike.

"The strategy is very robust and I think the organization of the DDM is strong enough to back up the strategy and programming,” said Evan Green from Groupe-conseil basstel Itee. He went on to say that “one major positive effect of having the CDM strategy is that the BVI will be integrated into regional and international Disaster Management programmes and will be able to benefit from funding opportunities because of the alignment of the their strategy to the over arching international and regional strategies."
