CDKN: Research call on climate compatible development

Upload your content

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) supports developing countries to deliver climate compatible development. It offers advice and technical assistance, cutting-edge research, strategic knowledge sharing and partnership building. Within the research stream, it makes periodic global and regional research calls on specific topics, and we also have an ongoing innovation fund which supports smaller research projects.

The CDKN is pleased to give an advance notice of a new global research call to open on Thursday 1st September 2011. The closing date for applications will be 24th October 2011.

The call will cover two themes:

i) Climate compatible development, including low carbon growth, and policy processes
ii) Disaster risk management and resilience

Specific sub-questions will be released on 1st September 2011 as part of the full call documentation. These will be made available on the CDKN website (link below).

It is looking for excellent, ambitious proposals for applied research of up to £500,000 (British pounds) in value for projects of 18-24 months' duration and will award funding for up to eight research projects, to a total call value of £4 million (British pounds).

CDKN seeks to fund research of the highest scientific standards with clear policy impact. The CDKN is therefore committed to: expanding existing knowledge and theoretical understandings, fostering direct integration between researchers and policy makers throughout the research process, including partners based in the global south, and encouraging effective mutual capacity building between all partners (northern-based partners are welcome to apply, and will need to develop research alongside southern-based partners).

On Thursday 1st September, it will publish and circulate full details of the call, including specific research questions that CDKN has identified as priority for focus, full eligibility criteria for projects and application processes. Please note it is not possible to give out further details of the call at this stage, but will be happy to answer any questions from 1st September 2011.

If you have not signed up to the CDKN newsletter yet and you wish to receive notification of this call directly when it is announced, please register with Franziska Schwarz on researchcall@cdkn.org.
