Capricorn District Municipality hosted the District Disaster Management School Competition on 25 May 2022 at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane. The competition was held in partnership with Capricorn fm, SANSA, Sanlam, Santam, MTN, Redcross, SAWS, Limpopo Department of Education, National Research Foundation and National Disaster Management.

“This is one of the models we explore to intensify and promote the knowledge of disaster risk management at school level. We explore this initiative in fulfilment of the National Disaster Management Framework which requires that disaster risk reduction education be integrated into primary and secondary school curricula and turn schools into focal points for awareness about disaster risk reduction,” said Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo during the awarding ceremony. Teffo appreciated both educators and parents for continuing to support learners as they were preparing for the competition.

“We commend the Department of Education for having partnered with us and other different stakeholders for elevating disaster management to schools,” said Teffo.
