Workers from the Ñico Lopez Refinery in Havana took part today in a simulation exercise to evaluate responses before possible spills of liquid chloride as part of the Meteoro 2018 Exercise.

According to Zulma Pila, general director of the institution, this exercise is important, because the refinery handles a variety of dangerous substances, among them liquid chloride.

The spill is detected by the operator of the area and from there a series of actions are triggered to neutralize it in which ambulances, specialized personnel and territorial authorities intervene.

For his part, the chief of operations of the Ñico Lopez Refinery, Jorge Argudin, commented that in the event of a liquid chlorine spill, the leakage is detected with the means of protection established for those cases.

As part of the final day of Meteoro 2018, sanitation actions, boat protection and river cleaning were also carried out in the Cuban capital.

To state at all levels the measures envisaged in each stage of the disaster reduction process and train the members of the commissions to protect the population, the damage and needs assessment groups, stand out among the objectives of the exercise.
