Disaster resilience norms may become mandatory

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has instructed commercial banks to ask for compliance with the National Disaster Management Authority's disaster resilience norms from loan applicants applying for infrastructure finance before building constructions begin or even earlier, at the design phase. According to the Hindu, observation of the safe building codes will be particularly enforced in the case of schools, hospitals, and community halls.
