East Africa: Disasters raise experts’ concerns

"It is projected that in future extreme events would be much more gigantic", stated Eng Mahboub Maalim, the executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), urging governments in the region to develop measures against climate risks.

"Climate prediction organisations should come together and use various climate models to make short term and long term predictions for the benefit of our states," he suggested.
