"The Himalayas are threatened like never before. Most pertinently, the immensity of the impact on life and property is entirely attributable to poor planning, bad governance and environmentally-destructive activities promoted and justified in the name of 'development'," writes Amitabha Pande in the Economic Times. Pande also emphasizes 6 areas to focus on at the policy level, including developing Himalaya-specific building codes and creating a framework for involving local communities in watershed management.
