Foreigners in Japan can turn to apps during natural disasters

In times of greatest need, smartphone apps may be the difference between life and death for foreigners in Japan.

These free apps have been developed in recent years in different languages to assist foreigners during natural disasters.

Since 2014, the Japan Tourism Agency has offered an emergency app called "Safety tips."

Depending on the language set up for the device, emergency earthquake reports and tsunami warnings can be received in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. Users can also receive more information about the locality they have set up on their smartphones.
