A new platform aimed at strengthening and mitigating disaster risks across The Gambia has been launched by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in partnership with the ECOWAS. The platform dubbed as 'Gambia National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction' was established to provide the opportunity to identify and strengthen synergies that exist among stakeholders in the planning, preparation, mitigation, recovery and rehabilitation efforts required in dealing with some of the potential hazards they face, reports the Today Newspaper.

The vice president of The Gambia said, 'We are now transitioning from managing crisis to managing risks and it is therefore important to adopt a new strategy, which directly involves vulnerable people themselves in planning and implementation of mitigation measures.'
