In a statement made yesterday, Ghana President, John Mahama, set out flood prevention and disaster risk reduction plans in Accra, in the hope of avoiding a repeat of the deadly flood and fire disasters that hit the city earlier this week, reports Floodlist.

Ghana Meteorological Agency have warned that more heavy rain is expected over the coming 2 weeks. The National Disaster Management Organisation, the Hydrology Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing and the City Authorities will also work to coordinate the clearing and expansion of waterways and the de-silting of drains.
