IAEG review of the UNDRR/ISC hazard definition and classification supplement

The overall aim of this statistical review is to provide expert feedback from a statistical perspective on the applicability of hazard classifications and the hazard information profiles.
Background information
As part of the Inter-Agency Expert Group (IAEG) Task Force on Measuring Hazardous Events and Disasters it was agreed by colleagues that a statistical review of the UNDRR/ISC Hazard Definition and Classification Supplement will be conducted. The purpose of this survey is:
- to ascertain the views of expert colleagues on the research questions for the review, and;
- to gauge availability of colleagues to support this statistical review.
The UNDRR/ISC Hazard Definition and Classification Supplement provides a common set of hazard definitions for monitoring and reviewing implementation of the:
- Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030
- Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030 and
- The UN Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
This will be an important input in the planned review and update of the classification, including addressing possible gaps and shortcomings. It also provides a fundamental basis for the development of practical implementation guidelines.
This project is co-led by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) in conjunction with colleagues from the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). This project will consist of a systematic review of hazards selected by colleagues completing this survey and will be complemented by qualitative research through in-country pilot testing.
The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. We would like your views on shaping the development of this project and would like to welcome you to support the project through volunteering for a focus group or acting as an expert reviewer for the project.
As part of our commitment to collecting a wide range of views, we would like to encourage you to forward this survey link to other expert colleagues who you think may wish to be involved or share their views.
