India: Goa to implement cyclone risk mitigation project
The Goa government on Friday decided to implement national cyclone risk mitigation project in the state, which has 105-km coastal belt, reports NavHind Times. The project will entail the cost of Rs 140 crore and will have 75:25 ratio expenditure by the Centre and the state government.
The project aims to bring about cyclone forecasting, tracking and warning systems, cyclone risk mitigation and capacity building in multi-hazard risk management. The major infrastructural facilities to be constructed under the project include multipurpose cyclone shelters, access roads, saline embankments and underground cabling.
