India: 'Local bodies should be involved in disaster preparedness'

With large parts of the country prone to natural disaster, the government said panchayat and other local bodies should be geared up for prevention and management of such calamities, according to IBNLive. "We should give more emphasis on decentralisation of the process of disaster prevention, preparedness and management, involving the local panchayat in all the programmes related to disaster management," he said addressing a function on the occasion of International Day for Disaster Reduction.
