The Union ministry of environment and forests has decided to establish a centre for advanced studies in climate change research at the North Eastern Hill University (Nehu) in Shillong further to concerns over inadequate data on climate change in the Northeast and its impact.

N.H. Ravindranath of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore said that a vulnerability profile of climate change adaptation in different states of the Northeast was being drafted under the climate change adaptation project.
