"Once the risk is assessed for different areas it could aid in earthquake preparedness and mitigate disasters by disaster management agencies in different places", said Kiran Mazumdar, director of earthquake geology division, GSI, Shillong, and project in-charge of the microzonation study in Jorhat, , in a report by The Telegraph.

"Site-specific guidelines regarding construction of structures can be formulated and this groundwork will enable future town planning in a more scientific manner,” he added.
