Japan shaken by massive earthquake and aftershocks: A test of resilience

Japan, a nation well-acquainted with seismic turbulence, was once again plunged into emergency mode when a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks rattled the country. A series of 21 aftershocks, each with a magnitude of 4.0, stirred panic and led to the evacuation of residents in the affected areas.

Emergency services were quickly mobilized to manage the evacuation process and provide much-needed assistance. Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority reassured the population that there was ‘no risk of radioactivity leaking from nuclear power plants’ in the quake-hit areas. However, the disaster did disrupt rail, telecom, and power services, highlighting the vulnerability of infrastructures to such calamities.
