The Ministry of Education and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an Annual Work Plan (AWP) for 2010, titled “Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Mainstreaming and Disaster Management in Schools”.

In line with the support provided to the government under UNDP’s Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, the project aims to support the government in integrating DRR in the school curriculum and inculcate disaster resilience in school communities. Expected outputs includes piloting school preparedness activities, provide disaster preparedness and response training to DRR focal persons in target schools and finalize the training manual for survival/emergency response skills. This support builds on the efforts of the UNDP and MoE last year, which include the development of a framework for integration of DRR into the school curriculum, development / revision of syllabi, preparation of instructional materials, teachers guide, student manuals, and development of a guideline on school preparedness planning.

The project period is from January to October 2010.
