The central coastal province of Quang Nam is prepared to relocate 18,000 families with almost 73,000 members living along the coastline to safer places to protect them from natural disaster threats.
With a budget of 3.7 trillion VND, the project will be conducted for 13 years until 2020 to help build the infrastructure system and community facilities in service of social and production development in new resettlements. The funding will also cover vocational training and compensations for displaced people.
Along with residents’ relocation efforts, the province has encouraged enterprises to invest in beach resorts and luxury coastal services centres to turn them into a natural disaster buffer zone.
These projects will also help tap two UNESCO-recognised World Cultural Heritage sites, the Champa Temple sanctuary and Hoi An ancient town as well as to develop the Chu Lai open economic zone effectively.
