Mexico's national drill 2024

The Government of Mexico will launch a new emergency alert system  "Cell Broadcast Service" which will enable you to receive an alert message from your cellphone if you are located in Mexico City. 

This exercise will carried out during the 2024 National Drill, taking place next Thursday, September 19th, at 11:00 a.m.

The Government of Mexico, through the National Civil Protection Coordination, has confirmed that the test performed on August 19th was successful. It has been indicated that all cellphones situated in Mexico City will automatically receive the alert through an audio message, without the need of an internet connection or the download of an app. This test will simulate an earthquake, however, it is expected to be developed in the future a multi-hazards early warning system.

The technical specifications of the "Cell Broadcast System" were approved in 2022 by the telecommunications regulator, IFT. Early warning systems are among the most effective mechanisms to save lives. Through this method, The National Civil Protection Coordination places Mexico at the forefront, by strengthening of the population's resilience towards disaster risk reduction.
