Multi stakeholder constitute coordinating role of the national platform for disaster risk reduction in Kyrgyz Republic

Bishkek/ Bonn - The German National Platform for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) together with the National Platform for Disaster Reduction (DRR) of Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kyrgyz Republic (MES) presented results of the joint pro-ject, which aimed to enhance the capacity of the national platform for DRR through stronger coordination and collaboration with the national, sub-national, local and international stake-holders. The German Federal Foreign Office and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development have funded the project approach. The outcome of the project presented that the National Platform for DRR, through intersectional synergies, could play a key role in coordinating disaster risk reduction and management on all levels in the future.

The closing event provided a platform for multi-stakeholder to review the results as to discuss jointly developed strategic recommendations for reinforcing disaster risk reduction processes. It has emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration in setting the national priorities and targets for disaster risk reduction and resilience building and concluded with the multi-stakeholder statement. The statement constituted that the national platform for DRR in Kyr-gyz Republic is currently the most appropriate mechanism to coordinate disaster risk reduc-tion and declared their commitment to efficient contribution to future processes in DRR in the country.

Additionally, the event introduced a first draft of proposed strategic directions for develop-ment and strengthening of the role of national platform for DRR on national, sub-national, and local levels. This document refers to experiences in the Kyrgyz Republic and intends to result in guidance on strengthening role and national ownership of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction also in the area of preparedness and prevention, which is replicable for other countries. It shall also contribute to efficient and effective implementation of the priorities for action of the Sendai Framework, which puts an emphasis on the role of national coordination mechanisms for the development of national plans, monitoring the trends and patterns in disaster risk, loss and impacts.
