Myanmar: Severe flooding drowns 1,000 homes in Hlegu

About 1,00 homes have been flooded in Hlegu, Burma (Myanmar) following intensive precipitation in the area. Undeveloped infrastructure, risk prevention and low capacity for efficient relief efforts remain a concern in many parts of the country, reports DVB Media.

In a 2013 situation bulletin on Burma, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stressed the need to “strengthen disaster risk reduction and preparedness activities to mitigate the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable populations in the coming years”.
