Myanmar: UN official arrives to assess disaster reduction efforts

According to the Myanmar Times, the United Nations is helping the government draft a national action plan for disaster risk reduction and a disaster management law, Ms Margareta Wahlström, the special representative of the UN Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction, said shortly before arriving in Yangon last week. She met senior government officials on October 13 – International Disaster Reduction Day – before visiting delta areas that were badly affected by Cyclone Nargis.
