As part of the series of training programmes developed by UNESCO, UNICEF and the Namibian College of Open Learning (Namcol), under the theme 'Lessons Learned in Educational Flood Responses,' a two-day workshop on the role of community radio in disaster risk reduction, was held in Namibia last week.
Goeril Tomren, educational in emergencies specialist, and Garmen Bestoso-Calvito of the UNESCO/UNICEF office in Windhoek, jointly supervised and facilitated the workshop.
“Community radio represents the most cost effective, user-friendly development tool in terms of its appeal, reach and relevance to the particular communities. Therefore, we are building capacities of the communities to reduce the risk of flooding,” Tomren said in an interview with New Era.
