"Namibia has joined the rest of the world to make Disaster Risk Reduction a national priority and speed up implementation of programmes and policies to shield Namibia from serious economic losses due to natural disasters," Marcus Hausiku, Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia, made these remarks in his address during the opening session of the 4th United Nations Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva yesterday.

"This gathering reminds us that the world is a global village. What affects one, affects all. Asia is currently facing cyclones, and parts of Southern Africa heavy flooding, while others like Namibia are experiencing drought and floods. Geneva is not very warm either," he said.
