"Nepal is vulnerable to natural disasters and earthquakes pose a major threat to the large number of children studying at schools, the future generation of Nepal. I am pleased Australia is part of a collective donor effort to reduce the risk to Nepali school children," said Richard Marles, member parliament, Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs according to The Himalayan Times. Mr Marles together with representatives of the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations was visiting a school that was retrofitted against earthquake hazard. The officials recognised the efforts that the Ministry of Education has taken for promoting structurally safer schools and disaster risk education among children, teachers and local communities.
