Settlement Support in Whangarei, New Zealand is organizing a seminar for Chinese migrants to prepare them for natural disasters and teach them about local hazards, and practical steps to deal with disasters, reports Scoop Media.
“Migrants may be well informed about hazards from their home country but not realise what the local risks are here in New Zealand, and how we manage them. While organisations can help in an emergency, individuals also need to protect themselves and their property from the effects of disasters,” said Ellen Altshuler, Settlement Support Coordinator.
The seminar, entitled ‘Civil Defence – Emergencies in Northland’ is part of the national campaign ‘Get ready. Get thru’; urging people to prepare for local disasters so they can get through them.
