The partnership signed between the World Food Programme (WFP) and Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is aimed at addressing seven core and priority areas of cooperation, including disaster risk reduction, reports Taiye Agbaje, as heavy floods loom in some parts of the country.

According to Thomas Yanga, WFP regional director for the Central and West Africa Bureau, the partnership will 'ensure long-term solutions to disaster preparedness and reduction in selected states by fostering cooperation and strengthening the working relationship of the parties'.
