Nigeria: 'How we repositioned the National Emergency Management Agency'

Mohammed Sani Sidi, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) since September 2010, comments on the agency’s activities and challenges in Nigeria. "There have to be a deliberate and conscious efforts by [state] governments to make sure that they implement the policy of urban planning. We have intensified our efforts in disaster risk reduction strategies by establishing clubs in schools and various vanguards like NYSC volunteers, Executive volunteers and Doctor Volunteers. These are initiatives that we have brought in order to take disaster management to a certain level," he said.
