With the increasingly variant weather patterns, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is seeking to build disaster risk management and preparedness among Nigerians. 'We are collaborating with six Nigerian universities for capacity development in disaster risk management (DRM), mainstreaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation into basic and post basic education curricula.'

Director General NEMA, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi stated this in Abuja, at the 2-day National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Nigeria in preparation for the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) to be held in Sendai, Japan. He stressed that NEMA like its counterparts globally over has developing a more comprehensive disaster management approach in the last 5 years.
