Nigeria: South-South vulnerable to disaster, says NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency’s coordinator in the South-South geopolitical zone, Mr Umesi Emenike, told the Nigerian Compass Newspaper that 'NEMA could only intervene in 44 cases, stressing that the development forced the agency to change its approach to disaster management, focusing more on reduction than management', citing lack of awareness of disaster risk reduction, political will, funding and a legal framework at the states and council levels as an operational challenge.
