The Government of Pakistan has announced new measures to improve the flood forecasting and warning system. Raja Pervez Ashraf, minister for water and power, addressed the inaugural ceremony of the Chairman Federal Flood Commission office complex on Saturday.

He said that a reduction of floods and flood damage would only be possible through technically sound and economically viable strategies. He went on to say that a community-based participatory approach should be adopted for effective flood preparedness, fighting and rehabilitation, and that there was a need to create awareness among the public in this regard.
