The Nigerian government in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched an automated web-based Early Warning System (EWS) aimed at combating the adverse effect of climate change for sustainable development, food security and well being of the people, which could also be used in dealing with the destructive effects of persistent flooding in the country. The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Daouda Toure, said that the system would help save numerous lives and property and provide a solid framework for the effective management of floods in the country.
