Philippines: Heavy rains, flooding affects 2.6 million, revive flood control plans

Heavy monsoon rains and accumulated flooding in various regions of the Philippines beginning from 6 August left a trail of dislocation and destruction, affecting over 600,000 families or 2.6 million Filipinos, with at least 89 deaths and loss of property costing over a billion pesos, reports ESSCNews. According to the report, President Aquino and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways revealed parts of a PhP 358 billion flood control master plan designed to curb floods in the region up to 2035.
