To maximize the resilience of its urban communities, the Makati City government conducted a symposium on Reducing Risks in Health and Education Sector at the city hall recently.
According to Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay, the symposium is part of the three-month long capacity building course on Climate and Disaster Resilience Initiative (CDRI).
He said the event also helped develop comprehensive plans to manage the current and potential risks in the urban communities caused by climate change.
"We recognize that Makati, like the rest of the world, is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. It is just fitting that we act now, and act fast, in order to lessen, if not totally eliminate its negative impacts on our locality and our country. This forum and the continuous data gathering and analysis that we are doing will surely help us to be more resilient as a community," the mayor noted.
The forum is organized by the CITYNET (The Regional Network of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements), in partnership with Kyoto University, UNISDR, and Metroplanado.
