The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Open Garden Inc announced their partnership for deploying FireChat’spioneering, disaster-proof technology during the Metro Manila Shake Drill on June 22, 2016.

Launched in May 2016 at the United Nations World Humanitarian Summit, FireChat Alerts leverages the FireChat network for disaster preparedness. It allows select organizations, media, and civil society groups to share critical information and advisories, even in the absence of cell networks.

The objective of the Metro Manila Shake Drill is to challenge and improve the disaster preparedness and response abilities of every group and individual if the “Big One” - a major earthquake - hits Metro Manila.
