Philippines: 'Now better prepared to respond to large-scale natural disasters'

The Philippines is better equipped to face the consequences of potential large-scale natural disasters such as tsunamis or earthquakes due to its long-term disaster-preparedness, response and mitigation efforts since 2001, said said National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) spokesperson and deputy presidential spokesperson Anthony Golez.

“This is the reason why the Philippines has gained the distinction of being one of the countries with disaster-preparedness plans,” said Mr. Golez in reaction to a report released by the Australian Geographical Institute last week. The report states that the Philippines is one of the countries most at risk of large-scale natural disasters which could kill up to one million people.
