PIA press release:  OCD, RDRRMC reiterates ‘disaster preparedness’ advisory

Iloilo City
-- Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Chair Rosario T. Cabrera advised again local disaster management councils in the region to monitor the situation in their respective areas of responsibility and take appropriate actions during bad weather conditions.

Cabrera reiterated the advice with the advent of the rainy and typhoon months from June to October. Typhoons that enter the country’s jurisdiction generally affect a wide area, sometimes half of the archipelago.

She told their local counterparts in the provinces, cities and municipalities to conduct close monitoring activities once there are advisories from the regional disaster management council, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and other warning agencies.

She advised them to see to it that preparedness and mitigation systems including those for warning and communication, evacuation and resources are in place.

Cabrera also revealed that the regional council can now issue in coordination with partner-institutions weather bulletins specifically for the Visayas once it would be affected by a weather disturbance.

She shared a sample of the said weather bulletin with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in connection with a recent weather disturbance. (JCM/JSC/PIA6)
