Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija - A memorandum of agreement between the DILG and the provincial government of Nueva Ecija on the implementation of a P204.197 million disaster risk reduction project was signed on 22 December 2010 at DILG.

The government of Spain, through the Agencia Española de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarrolo (AECID), in coordination with the DILG-Local Government Academy identified the five LGUs that will benefit from this project, namely San Jose City, Carranglan, Pantabangan, Rizal and Llanera, all in the province of Nueva Ecija.

The province is the lone recipient of the grant since it passed LGA’s two criteria: visible effects of the typhoon in the LGU and its willingness and readiness to undertake the project.

Under the MOA, the DILG through the LGA, shall perform the following tasks: organize and convene together with AECID, the Project Steering Committee; and maintain the day-to-day operations through the Project Management Office in the delivery of project results, among others.

On the other hand, the DILG Nueva Ecija provincial office shall oversee the livelihood component of the project, manage with LGA the capacity development of the target LGUs and provide inputs in the design and implementation of required capacity development of target LGUs and vulnerable communities.

The provincial government of Nueva Ecija shall oversee the implementation of infrastructure projects, formulate an integrated work and financial plan for the project, and provide executive and legislative support in ensuring the implementation of project deliverables. (DILG/jsl/PIA-Nueva Ecija)
