Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN, Hilario Davide Jr. said that his country had greatly benefited from the space-based technology provided by the UN, during the violent storms that hit the country recently.

“The Philippines notes with satisfaction the increase in the availability of space-based information to support disaster management and emergency response activities,” Davide said speaking before the 4th committee of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly. He added that the country had a “very high practical usage” of programmes initiated by UN-Spider as it is struck by an average of 20 typhoons each year.
