Philippines: 'Tool kit' for DRR to build capacity
Renauld Meyer, UNDP country director for the Philippines, mentioned at a hearing in Manila this week that there would be a UN project to train local officials on adapting to the effects of climate change and mitigating risks associated with disasters.
“[This will] not automatically bring all the answers to the questions that we raised this morning,” he said, explaining that the newly published book was about the role of local government units in (LGUs) in providing the assistance needed by communities. He described it as a “very practical tool kit from UN on mainstreaming risk reduction in sub-national development.”
The tool kit can help strengthen the capacity of LGUs, “so that they can be held accountable by their constituents in making sure that disaster risk reduction (DRR) is mainstreamed (or incorporated) in local development plans.”
