Nabunturan, Compostela Valley - Women leaders, mostly mayors’ wives and municipal coordinators of Compostela Valley Provincial Council of Women attended a skills and training-workshop dubbed as “Gender, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management at the Local Settings” at Taal Vista Hotel, Tagaytay City.

Participants were oriented on microfinance opportunities for women, the good practices and experiences of different local government units, the different laws concerning women and techniques on how to face different human security challenges brought about by climate change.

They were also informed on the framework on Gender and Development specifically training on gender sensitivity, including the GAD planning and budgeting.

The Women Involve in Nation Building (WIN) facilitated the seminar-workshop last July 11-13 in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The three-day seminar-workshop was very relevant to all the women leaders of Compostela Valley as they intended to re-echo the inputs from the seminar.

WIN is an organization that aims to empower women leaders for effective participation in governance under the Local Government Code. WIN works as a training organization for elected and appointed women officials in the local government units (LGUs) in 16 regions, 76 provinces, 67 cities, and 1,540 municipalities, including barangays.

It conducts training workshops, seminars, projects and programs designed to build the skills of women local leaders by networking and teaming up with the government, NGOs, the private sector and funding agencies. (CLC/IDS-Comval/Rodielyn A. Manugas)
