Philippines: Zambo city to build disaster management centre in 2012

Zamboanga City - The City is planning to construct a disaster management building in 2012 that is intended for activities or operation involving or concerning disaster risk reduction and management, this bared City Information Officer Sheila Covarrubias in a press statement.

Covarrubias added, along with the planned construction of the said disaster management building will be the hiring of personnel to man the office.

Covarrubias explained, personnel hired will man the building on a 24 hour shift basis.

“Funding for the building and the plantilla positions will be included in the 2012 budget” Covarrubias was quoted as saying.

Covarrubias explained, the building will be used to house relief goods and equipment being used for disaster actions and assistance.

“This move is part of the components of the creation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) which used to be known as the City Disaster Council (CDC)” Covarrubias said.

Meanwhile, CDRRMC is set to purchase this year necessary equipment and gears for use in disaster relief and management operations.

Zamboanga City and most parts of Mindanao are outside the typhoon belt but the city is undertaking measures on disaster preparedness. (JPA/ PIA9 Zambo City)
