SA Weather Service calls for advanced early warning systems
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has called for advanced early warning systems in order to enhance the resilience of communities against weather disasters.
CEO of SAWS Ishaam Abader made the call at the national consultative workshop for early warnings for all.
The three-day event, which concludes today in Pretoria, aims to assess the current state of early warning systems in South Africa, as part of the UN-backed EW4All initiative to protect all from hazardous weather events by 2027.

“To be able to actually get weather warnings to our most rural areas, is one of the gaps that we identified. Where as part of this workshop we would be looking at engaging like the international telecommunications unit which is a UN entity as well and then also locally with … DSN network operators.”
