As a part of UNDP support to UN Country Team to develop the National Action Plan to implement the national Disaster Risk Management Programme (2016 - 2019), a two-day workshop for the Government representatives has been organized.

The purpose of the workshop is to complete the operational draft of the Plan for final consultation before it is finalized and presented to the Government. The goal of the Government Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief is to have a plan ready before the 29 July floods follow-up in Sarajevo.

"The National Action Plan, once adopted by the Government and once integrated and linked to all relevant sectoral plans, strategies and laws, will represent the key instrument for all international partners and government bodies to plan resources and activities in DRR and prevention," says Ms Irena Vojackova Sollorano, United Nations Resident Coordinator.

The workshop is agreed between the Government Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief and the coordinator of the UN Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI), while the coordination of the United Nations Country Team is ensured by the Resident Coordinator Office.

"Climate change is a reality. More frequent and significantly more intense natural disaster events, floods in particular, represent a clear indication of a changing environment we need to adapt to," says Marko Blagojevic, Director of the Government Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief.

The Governments representatives have been also addressed by Mr Hachim Badji, CADRI Coordinator and Mr Mike Thurman, World Bank.

The National Action Plan to implement the national Disaster Risk Management Plan has been initiated through the UN Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative and in cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions. The proposed goals, measures and activities are in line with international standards.

About the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI)

The UNCT supports Serbia through the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative - CADRI (www.cadri.net) to build and implement a coherent framework for developing national capacities in disaster risk reduction, including preparedness for emergency response. The framework will enable Serbia to be at the forefront of global efforts as one of the first countries in the world to begin adopting elements of the new Hyogo Framework.
