One of the thematic pillars for the European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) is accelerating implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform (VC platform) allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR while identifying crossovers with others in the field and potential partners with whom to collaborate to maximise impact.

The Sendai Framework recognizes that in addition to the primary responsibility by States to reduce disaster risk, we also need stakeholders’ “commitment, goodwill, knowledge, experience and resources” to boost the construction of resilient societies around the world. In this session, Róisín Jordan (Alliance Manchester Business School), Luis Carvalho (Municipality of Amadora), and Idan Sasson (Climate Policy Initiative) share their work on DRR.

Intersecting key topics such as recovery from COVID-19, Sendai Target E (DRR strategies) at the local level, and finance for resilient development, the speakers will touch upon the importance of stakeholders in Europe to learn from others (who is doing what and where) and collaborate through the VC platform.
