"It is fundamental, that our local leaders are conscious about the potential risk their citizens face and we need to invest more on disaster risk reduction measures at local levels with assistance of all stakeholders" said Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera at the national launch of the Making Cities Resilient: "My city is getting ready" world disaster reduction campaign yesterday in Colombo.

The national launch of the Global Assessment Report on disaster risk reduction (GAR 2011) also took place during the event, organized by the Disaster Management Centre, the local government and Provincial Council Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
