Save the Children is currently gathering survey data for two baseline research projects:

  1. Mapping national-level policies advancing Comprehensive School Safety
  2. Mapping Save the Children projects advancing Comprehensive School Safety

Supported by funding from the Global Facility of Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), both projects are being conducted globally in approximately 95 countries across Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and are slated to be finished early this year.

Survey Information

Other organizations are invited to share their CSS projects in the survey, and GADRRRES members are encouraged to be involved (To contribute information on CSS projects, please click here and fill out one survey per project).

The policy survey will be answered by focal points from national governments around the world.  Information from this survey aims to chart existing policies on school safety and provide resources to governments as well as education and risk management practitioners on examples of good knowledge and practice.  The survey is also available in Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian, and can be completed by clicking here.

Anticipated Mapping Outcomes

Both surveys are aligned with the CSS Targets and Indicators, which will provide several opportunities to further progress on CSS upon completion of the mapping.  The information collected will support the population of the Global Safety Collaboration Platform, with a particular focus on the progress of Pillar 2 (for more information, please click here).

The mapping will also provide data sets for further analysis and research as well as case studies and profiles on the projects and policies advancing CSS. This work and its subsequent outcomes will also serve as a basis for starting conversations with national-level governments about CSS and WISS, raising awareness and interest.

The mapping data may also serve as a tool for national governments and GADRRRES to monitor progress on both CSS and WISS and to identify gaps and priorities in policy development and implementation. GADRRRES members may also share the collected information with partners and use the survey data for programming and advocacy efforts at country, regional, and global levels for progress towards all three pillars.

The deadline to complete the surveys is Friday 17 February 2017
